Matthew Grevers and Missy Franklin shine on Day 3 events – 2012 London Olympic Games

American swimmers, Matthew Grevers and Missy Franklin outshined their competitors in the Men and Women’s 100m backstroke respectively on day three of the 2012 London Olympic Games at the London Aquatic Centre.

The 27-year-old Grevers enjoyed a full body length lead over his closest challenger and cemented his place on top of the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking a time of 52.16 seconds.

The champion was followed by Nick Thoman, who remained 0.76 seconds apart and reached the victory stand for silver medal by clocking a time of 52.92 seconds.

Thoman was trailed by Ryosuke Irie of Japan, who remained only 0.05 seconds slower form upsetting his former finisher and tapped the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 52.97 seconds.

Similarly, Irie was chased by Camille Lacourt of France, who was 0.11 seconds apart and ended his race in a time of 53.08 seconds for fourth position.

Fifth finest spot of the event was obtained by Liam Tancock of Great Britain, who settled on the finishing end with the timing of 53.35 seconds.

On the other hand, the audience witnessed dazzling swim of Franklin in the Women’s 100m discipline. She showed no mercy to her challengers throughout the double lap backstroke discipline and rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by
clocking a wonderful effort of 58.33 seconds.

The first position holder was chased by Australia’s Emily Seebohm, who stayed 0.35 seconds apart and finished second in the discipline by producing a nice time of 58.68 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Japanese swimmer, Aya Terakawa, who stayed only 0.15 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by posting a time of 58.83 seconds.

Similarly, Terakawa was trailed by Anastasia Zueva of Russian Federation, who remained only 0.07 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the finishing wall for fourth position with the timing of 59.00 seconds for fourth position.

Furthermore, the winners received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony after the session.
