MS Dhoni praises part-time bowlers for win over Sri Lanka

India imposed an emphatic six-wicket defeat over Sri Lanka in the fourth One Day International (ODI) at Colombo on Tuesday. The Men in Blue were dominant in all three departments of the game, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni lavished special praise on his part-time
bowlers, saying that he was not short of options to trouble Sri Lanka’s batting line-up.

Bating first, the islanders managed to get a decent total of 252, thanks to the good start provided by the top order. Ravi Ashwin scalped a couple of wickets to make things problematic for the Sri Lankans, but the start of the show was Manoj Tiwary.

The young man did a fine job with his spin bowling, picking up four wickets in 10 overs. In reply, India lost Gautam Gambhir early, but Virat Kohli once again did the trick for India.

The classy right-hander smashed his 13^th ODI ton to guide the side to an easy win. On his team’s comprehensive victory, Dhoni emphasised on the role his part-timer, saying they bowled well according to the field.

"The part-timers bowled really well, the pace was important and they bowled to their field. This is the reason why fast bowlers bowled just 18 overs. What matters is the variations we got now. Manoj is the away going spinner for us, we have some off-spinners
and also Virat can bowl his medium pacers with the keeper up. That is the sort of quality we have,” Dhoni said after the match.

He added, "They bowled the right length to create trouble for batsmen. So have plenty of options now. Even when Manoj is not there, we have Viru and Suresh Raina who can bowl. So if we don’t get a perfect allrounder, we are comfortable playing seven batsmen."

The Indians have gained an unassailable 3-1 lead in the ODI series. While Dhoni admired his bowling attack, he did not forget to hail Kohli for his wonderful show with the bat.

"Kohli has improved a lot, once he gets set, he’s someone who doesn’t like to throw away his wicket, he’s a very improved cricketer, very hungry to get runs," he said.
