Mac Lee topples Diego Yong in Boy’s Singles pre-quarter-final at XXI Pan Am Junior Championships

The second seeded Mac, who did not show any sign of nervousness in the entire competition, remained on track in the round-of-16 battle and thrashed Diego in a spectacular fashion without showing any mercy.
The in-form Canadian player showed superb play as he moved quickly in all areas of the court and spared no chance for his opponent to take the driving seat. He remained positive on court and eventually took the match in two sets with a superb score.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Diego played positive and competitive badminton in opening set but could not win as he lost his focus at the concluding points.
The confused Diego failed to play positive and aggressive badminton in the following set and crashed out from the event by losing the match without showing his brilliance.
In the first set of this contest, Mac played in a composed and positive manner in opening rallies but geared up his speed at the ending points of opening half and grabbed an 11-7 lead until the end of opening half.
The local shuttler continued his power play after the one-minute break and did not miss any chance to build pressure on his rival. He was in commanding position and took eventually wrapped up opening game with a decent 21-18 score on the board.
Diego played better in the second set as he employed attacking shots and did not let his Canadian rival to take advantage on score board until the end of first half.
However, the higher ranked Canadian shuttler played aggressive badminton after the break and started to take charge of rallies while keeping the pace at the maximum level.
Mac remained on course as he did not lose his focus at the ending points and managed to bag the game with a 21-15 margin on score board.
Mac lived up to the expectations of his home fans as he ended up this pre-quarter-final match in straight games with a convincing margin of 21-18 and 21-15.
