Thursday, August 2nd, 2012 5:24:47 by Usman KhalidFacebook released the first quarterly earnings report last week to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC). Being a public company that is the first ever report that the company submitted to the commission. Among other things, the report mentioned the real number of monthly users and fake accounts on the network.
According to the report, Facebook has 955 million active monthly users while, 543 of them are active monthly mobile users as well. In addition, the reports states that nearly 20 percent of the 543 million, that is 102 million, use the network services only from their mobile phones.
Another thing revealed by the company was the number of fake user accounts on Facebook. In the last filing back in March, Facebook had almost 5 to 6 percent fake or misleading users. The number has surged past 8 to 8.7 percent in July.
The big question is: Have people started using Facebook more hence, resulting in fake accounts or, Is Facebook being the righteous now to show the clean figures?
The answer is no to the first one and yes, maybe to the second. Facebook has actually broken down the numbers in detail to mention and categorize the types of misleading accounts.
The detailed percentage segregation is: duplicate accounts (4.8 percent), user-misclassified accounts (2.4 percent), and undesirable accounts (1.5 percent).
