Lennox Lewis: David Haye would have lost in two rounds against me!
Thursday, August 2nd, 2012 3:50:24 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer three-time heavyweight champion of the world, Lennox Lewis, who is considered as one of the all-time greatest boxers, has claimed that he would have beaten former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in two rounds, if they would have ever met in the ring.
Haye, who is currently the top British heavyweight, impressed everyone last month by becoming the first man ever to knock out Dereck Chisora in the ring yet Lewis thinks he is just too small to reign at 6ft 3ins and 210lbs.
Haye, also known as the Hayemaker, suffered a humiliating defeat against Wladimir Klitschko last year and later on he came up with an excuse that he had an injured toe due to which he couldn’t launch his Hayemaker punch.
The 31-year-old brash Londoner is now trying his best to set up a fight with Wladimir’s elder brother Vitali, who is the current WBC heavyweight champion. However, Lewis thinks he would be a no match against the Ukrainian giant.
“Wladimir and Vitali are the only A-class heavyweights. The best of the rest are B-class. We don’t know which of those can make that leap. David Haye was so disappointing against Wladimir. Sad,” Lewis told The Daily Mail.
He added, “I beat Vitali in a great fight when we were in our prime. To be honest, David might have lasted a couple of rounds against me if he was lucky. Heavyweight championship boxing is now a game for giants.”
Lewis reckons fighters like David Price and the 22-year-old Olympian Anthony Joshua, who has reached the quarter-finals of the tournament with an impressive points win over Cuban Erislandy Savon, are the future of UK’s heavyweight division.
He said, “Price is big enough and has the talent, movement, dominant jab and big punch to suggest he might go all the way. The field is wide open. I grew up as man during my Olympics and I hope Joshua does the same.”
“When I first met him I couldn’t believe he was bigger than me – an inch taller at 6ft 6in. I thought oh my God. Then I thought oh good. As I already told you, size matters.”
Well, all said and done, David Haye is not someone who would keep quite after all these statements. So let’s wait and watch how he responds to Lennox Lewis.
