PML-N’s allegations against SKMH; PTI’s chief Imran Khan cries foul play

Dismissing allegations and asking the Supreme Court to take action, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) could harm the country to any extent just to come into power.

Replying to the money laundering cases leveled against him by Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the senior leader of the PML-N, the PTI chairman said they should have at least considered doing a little investigation into the matter.

He noted, “Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMH) is not Imran Khan’s personal hospital; the patients are not my relatives, they are Pakistanis. It is the only free cancer hospital and PML-N should have thought before doing this”.

He said the PML-N caused harm to many Pakistanis by attacking the hospital. He also stated that the party dragged a public welfare institution into the mud of politics for point scoring. “They should have attacked Imran Khan but not the SKMH”, he added.

Terming all allegations leveled against them as baseless, Imran Khan said the $3 million amount mentioned by the PML-N leader is already stated in hospital’s balance sheet. In his view, they shouldn’t have mentioned the amount in their accounts if they had misused the money.

He explained that Khawaja Asif relied on their public balance sheet to pick out all the numbers for this drama.

He severely rejected the impression that Zakat money was invested abroad, saying that the hospital receives money donors nationally and internationally.

He made it clear that the amount of money hospitals gets in the form of Zakat is never enough to provide free health services, hence, fund raising events are organized to bridge the gap.

He clarified, “The endowment fund uses this money for investment and earn profit on it,” he declared. The endowment fund has its own board which decides how to use the money, a board of which I’m not a member”.

The PTI chief answered the accusations of the PML-N point by point and shared the entire story of investment. He claimed that the PML-N played this drama in order to block huge amount of donations in the holy month of Ramazan.

He added, “Khawaja might be upset by this but I want to tell him that we have received Rs40 million from Sialkot and raised Rs60 million through a fund-raising iftari in Lahore”.

Imran Khan said it was not the first time as the PML-N has pulled such a stunt in the past as well.
