Resignation of Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa to rock PML-N’s boat
Friday, August 3rd, 2012 2:25:35 by Faisal FarooqAs the heels of Captain Safdar’s episode are not recovered yet, the resignation of Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will rock the party’s boat wide and large.
The PML-N is already struggling to reduce damages from the confrontation of Captain Safdar, the son-in-law of Nawaz Sharif, with the bigwigs of the party from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Pir Sabir Shah and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi.
The party will have severe impacts with the recent resignation of Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa and his son Dost Muhammad Khosa from the basic party membership as well other posts.
After a decade long of affiliation with Sharif Brothers, the father and son had reportedly submitted resignations to the party heads.
A couple of days ago, the senior Khosa sent a letter to Nawaz Sharif, citing the problems he was facing in the party and grievances against certain groups.
Although some key leaders of the PML-N held meetings with Zulfiqar Ali Khosa but failed to persuade him to change his decision.
Sharif Brothers, who are already making efforts to cordially conclude Captain Safdar’s saga, are not in position to brew up of another crisis when elections are approaching. They cannot discount importance of Khosa’s significance in the Southern part of the province where the party is already facing tough times from rivals.
Zulfiqar Khosa has been a big political achievement to the PML-N in the region, especially after the party suffered the loss of Javed Hashmi, who mainly covered the central areas of South Punjab.
Khosa and Hashmi belonged to different groups within the party but the political influence of former in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Bahawalngar was a key factor in keeping the party strength in the region.
Khosa clan is traditional rival of Legahari family, which will be fortified after the absence of Sardar Zulfiqar.
The differences between Sardar Zulfiqar and other groups in the party are not a new thing and have been simmering since he relinquished as president of Punjab chapter of the party.
Dost Muhammad Khosa, who had served as chief minister of the province, has been criticized for misusing authority as Minister for Local Bodies.
