The United Sikkim owner claimed that he would himself play this season and help the side keep their top flight credentials for another year.

Baichung Bhutia is one of the major stakeholders of the team and has voiced his concern as they prepare for the upcoming season.

He also added that he was confident of retaining their berth in the I-League but admitted that he would have to keep himself fit if he was to play as well.

It’s a new club with a young squad. Budget-wise we are nowhere near to Mohun Bagan or United SC. But we’re very very confident. Our main aim is to remain in the I-League. I have to stay fit in the top tier competition. I cannot just because I’m the owner."

He also commented on the coach’s ability and claimed that the tactician has been given free hand in selection, while also backing the Indian team for success in the Nehru Cup.

"He has picked the squad. I’ve given him a free hand. He is fully responsible for the team’s result. I’ve full faith in his abilities. We have a good side. We are hopeful. But you have to give them time."
