Govt will ensure fair polls: PM Ashraf

democratic process in the country.
Ashraf, who was talking to the journalists here after an Iftar dinner at the PM House, said that the PPP government was committed to hold elections in transparent manner so that people could freely choose their representatives.
The PM said that in only in result of a free and fair election the people would get a chance to decide as to who would represent them and run the government in the future.
He was of the view that after appointment of the CEC, it was expected the next general elections would be held in a transparent manner. Commenting on his party’s preparation on the upcoming elections, the PM said “election is our
field and we are always ready to go to elections.”
Reiterating his point, he said, “The government would ensure holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country, which was the only way to strengthen democracy.”
Commenting on media’s role, the Prime Minister said that the media should highlight the shortcomings of the government, and in this regard, its role was important, however, he pleaded the media to play its role effectively and
positively.
The PM said that media is an important pillar of the society, and that the incumbent government cannot think to impose curbs on it. He also said that several measures are being taken by the government to empower the media.
