Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin won gold medals of Men’s 100m butterfly and Women’s 200m backstroke respectively at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
With his impeccable pace, he stayed prominently ahead of his strongest rival, Chad le Clos of South Africa, and tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with a timing of 51.21 seconds.
His effort remained nearly 0.70 seconds slower from his own personal Olympic mark of 50.58 seconds, made by him at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Moments later, the audience witnessed exhausting swims of le Clos and Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russian Federation for second spot of the event. Both swimmers involved each other in a neck-to-neck swim for second place and hit the finishing blockade with the
same timing of 51.44 seconds for silver medal.
After that, Milorad Cavic of Serbia and Steffen Deibler of Germany also engaged in a furious battle for fourth spot of the event. They tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but reached the wall for fourth position with a joint finish
in a time of 51.81 seconds.
Following that, Franklin dominated the distant backstroke discipline. Franklin continued her astounding efforts throughout the swim and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 04.06 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Anastasia Zueva of Russian Federation, who stayed almost two body lengths apart and occupied silver medal of the discipline by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.92 seconds.
The Russian swimmer was trailed by Elizabeth Beisel of United States, who stayed only 0.63 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the medal rostrum for bronze medal as she clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 06.55 seconds.
Beisel was followed by Elizabeth Simmonds of Great Britain, who stayed slightly more than a half body length away from her former finisher and hit the finishing wall for fourth position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.26 seconds.
Furthermore, the winners received medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session.
