Amir Khan: Manny Pacquiao is number one but I don’t want to be number two!
Thursday, August 9th, 2012 3:18:04 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer IBF and WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan lost his WBA title to Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and after the fight Khan revealed that he was dissatisfied with his Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
The Bolton man, who is more commonly known as King Khan, is pondering over his relationship with Roach and the main reason behind is that Khan wants someone who could give him full time.
Roach also trains the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao along with Khan and this seems to be the biggest problem at this point in time for the Brit.
After losing to Garcia, Khan insisted that he couldn’t fight well because he did a lot of travelling with Roach.
Khan told BoxingScene.com, “I think at the time, I wanted more time with Freddie, but I respect Freddie and that he’s got to spend time with Manny – who is number one. But I’m in the position where I don’t want to be number two, I want to be number one and that’s what I have to have – I need someone who is with me all the time.”
Khan, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 29 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, had planned to move up to 147lbs division in order to fight with the likes of Floyd Mayweather junior but after getting defeated two time in a row he has changed his mind.
He added, “I’m going to speak with my team next week because I want to get everyone’s opinions, and I’m staying at light-welter.”
Khan is currently on holidays due to the month of Ramadan but he has plans to comeback on December 10. Khan has not announced any opponent or venue as of yet but let’s hope if he somehow gets a rematch with Garcia.
