Minorities in Pakistan enjoy full protection; says Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation
Thursday, August 9th, 2012 4:11:08 by Faisal FarooqFollowing emergence of reports that Hindus start migrating to India, Sindh Minister for Exercise and Taxation came forward to clear the picture and dismissed the notion that the minorities were feeling lack of protection in the country.
Speaking to various delegations, the provincial minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that minorities in the country enjoy full protection, appraising the observance of ‘Minorities Day’ on August 11 at government level.
He noted, “The allocation of a 5% quota for the minorities in government jobs was an achievement on the part of the current government. Seats for the minorities in the Senate were enhanced, a step which would foster the sense of protection among the minorities”.
Chawla called for holding seminars and dialogue for promoting the spirit of interreligious harmony, adding the minorities were playing their part in the development process of the country.
He added that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) was safeguarding the rights of the minorities in accordance with the Constitution as well as its manifesto. He made it clear that the Pakistani Hindu families were going to India on pilgrimage.
Earlier, a private TV channel reported that as many as 60 Hindu families from Balochistan and Sindh have decided to migrate to India due to increasing cases of violence and lack of security against their community.
It reported that four out of the 60 families left for India via Samjhota Express from Lahore Railway Station while the remaining are expected to leave for Thursday.
Another report said that the Hindus families had complained that their businesses were destroyed and their houses were raided by unknown militants.
According to the report the families acquired visit visas but chances of their homecoming are slim. It also added that the victim families sold their houses at half prices.
President of Hindu Panchayat Babu Mahesh Lakhani while talking to the media said that several families of Hindu community have decided to migrate to India as they were facing threats due to religion.
He said, “The Hindu community has been facing forced conversions, kidnapping for ransom”.
He further said that several other Hindu families were also thinking to migrate to India as they feel insecure in Pakistan.
