Supreme Court indicts Malik Riaz in contempt of court case
Thursday, August 9th, 2012 12:23:29 by Faisal FarooqAs expected, the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday indicted Malik Riaz, the real estate tycoon, with contempt of court charges.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan resumed the hearing of the contempt of court case against Malik Riaz, the former chairman of Bahria Town.
Dr Basit, the counsel for Malik Raiz, rejected the ruling, saying that he didn’t understand the indictment as the charges against his client were ambiguous.
He further said that the text of the ruling didn’t contain the words explaining that Riaz had spoken any contemptuous words against the judiciary as well as the apex court. His arguments were also assisted by Attorney General Irfan Qadir.
The lawyer said that the court should include the contemptuous words in the text of the ruling so as to explain charge against his client, because he would have to clear his stance.
Upon which, the bench said that the apex court has all the relevant record that better explains the contempt done by the real estate businessman.
In order to clear the verdict to Dr Basit, petitioners Liaquat Qureshi and Ashraf Gujjar said that the recording of presser Malik Riaz addressed could also be merged with the text. The court adjourned the hearing till August 29.
Earlier, Malik Riaz’s counsel, Advocate Dr Abdul Basit, had filed an intra-court appeal and requested the proceedings to be halted until the appeal is heard. He also requested the court to adjourn the hearing till any decision on the contempt law is taken.
Malik Riaz had tendered an unconditional apology for his press conference in which, with a pocket-sized copy of the Holy Quran in his hand, he had hurled serious, but contradictory charges against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his son, Dr Arsalan Iftikhar, on an issue that is sub judice, and in defiance of an apex court order to speak to the media.

Nobody should be allowed to escape the law
This is revenge by the Corrupt judge. The Government should come to the rescue of the tax payers who pays slaries of these rscal and corrupt judges.
All these judges should be fired for bad decisions and unlawful actions. How the judges who are party can hear the case of Malik Riaz. How the nation will get rid of these corrupt judges.
Good decision
The small time in which he became billionior needs no further proof that he is at fault. How can you make fortunes in such a small time.He should be taken to task.
Marvelous decision by independent judiciary of Pakistan. No one should get free from LAW.
Now the next turn should be Shirjeel Memon & Faisal Raza Abidi for the contempt of Law.
Then at last there will be Turn for MR.10% who become 100% now.
We should not blame any body without proof. whoever says Current judges are currups live in the heaven of fools
