Ottis Gibson pleased with West Indies’ progress
Friday, August 10th, 2012 10:47:56 by Rana Nasir GhafoorWest Indian head coach Ottis Gibson believes his team is on the right track after defeating New Zealand 2-0 in the recent Test series.
The Windies did a wonderful job against the Black Caps. After winning the T20 and ODI series, the Caribbean Kings continued their good work to ensure a comprehensive triumph in the Test series.
A convincing win helped West Indies improve their rankings in the T20 series. The coach is delighted with his team’s recent show in all three versions of the game, saying that the guys are heading in the right direction.
"The players are working hard and deserve their success. I want to give them credit. They deserve to be excited about their achievements," he said.
Former Test batsman Richie Richardson, who is currently shouldering his responsibilities as team manager, is also happy with the team’s progress, adding that the guys have been improving day by day.
He shared, "The hard work, the dedication, the sacrifice and the desire to improve have paid dividends. These are some of the building blocks as we look to build a strong West Indies team. Lots of credit must also be given to Coach Gibson and the entire
management staff, who are all contributing to the development of a strong West Indies Team.”
The recent Test success against the Kiwis was West Indies’ first series win since beating Bangladesh last October. The cricket pundits also termed their win as a good step forward, as it will help them do well in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The mega event is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka later this year, and West Indies are being considered as one of the favorites. There are so many powerful cricketers in the T20 squad that it is going to be a tough task for the rest of the sides.
With Chris Gayle at top of the order, West Indies’ batting line-up can become a real threat for any bowling attack. The side has many dangerous players in the late middle-order such as Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard. Sunil Narine will be West Indies’ main
bowler in the upcoming big contest.
