SC accepts review petition; hearing on August 15

Islamabad: (Saturday, August 11, 2012) Supreme Court of Pakistan, while accepting government’s review petition on NRO implementation case, has set August 15 for hearing.

Headed by Justice Asif Khosa, a five member bench will hear the petition.

Earlier, the government had filed a review petition against the July 12 order of the apex court in NRO implementation. The petition was filed by Attorney General Irfan Qadir.

The review petition maintained that the prime minister had not received any advice to write the letter, and that he was not bound to write the letter.

The petition further stated that the Supreme Court’s order on June 27 and July 12 in the case are unlawful and if the letter is written, it will be violation of the Article 248 of the constitution.

Another argument maintained in the review petition as that when the court itself cannot write the letter, how could it expect from the prime minister to write it to the Swiss authorities.
