Amir Khan eager to make Britain’s golden girl Nicola Adams a world champion!
Saturday, August 11th, 2012 4:31:44 by Imran Shaukat KhanBritain’s golden girl, Nicola Adams, made history at the Excel Arena last Thursday by becoming the first ever female to win gold at the Olympics and Amir Khan, who is a former IBF and WBA light welterweight and a 2004 Athens Games silver medalist, wants to take Adams under his wings now.
The Bolton man, who is widely known as King Khan, has promised to make Adams a world champion and he is fully confident that Adams, who left everyone flabbergasted with her impressive 16-7 final victory over China’s world No 1 Ren Cancan, will become the face of British boxing one day.
“I’m happy to take Nicola under my wing. I will make her a world champion and she will make a lot of money,’ said Khan, speaking to Sportsmail at his charity Olympics celebration event at Frost of London.
While speaking on his inclusion, Khan revealed that he holds a promotion license and he wants to help the young talent in the sport.
He added, “Not many people know this but I own a promotion licence and what I want to do is start promoting more for girls.
“I want to get kids of the street and get them to try out boxing and also take boxing to schools.”
“By winning the gold medal, Nicola is going to bring a lot of young women into boxing,” he said.
The 25-year-old Khan, who carries a record of winning 26 of his 29 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted a good boxer like Adams was much needed in Britain.
“She’s the face of British boxing for women. We’ve not had anyone like her for a long, long time.
“She’s done it the proper way, winning a gold medal.
“Before you know it they’ll be more weight categories introduced because they’ll be so many looking to compete.”
In the end, Amir Khan, who lost his WBA title to Danny Garcia last month, said he now wants to start looking at talent and promoting fighters.
