President, PM reaffirm their commitment to ensure equal rights for all citizens
Saturday, August 11th, 2012 3:37:43 by Faisal FarooqPresident Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday iterated the government’s dedication to ensure equal treatment for all citizens irrespective of their religion‚ caste and creed.
National Minorities Day is being observed throughout the country on August 11 (Saturday).
In their messages on the occasion of National Minorities Day‚ the president and premier called for upholding the ideals of equal rights and complete freedom to everyone to freely profess and practice their faiths.
President Zardari noted, “It was on this day in 1947 when Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah in his historic address in the Constituent Assembly outlined the contours of a modern and tolerant Pakistan”.
The present democratic government, in his view, inspired by the vision of its great leaders and has already taken a number of steps to integrate people of all faiths in the national mainstream.
He added, “We cannot be oblivious of our responsibility to continue making efforts for bringing into the main stream of national life peoples of all faiths and allay their concerns about their rights and privileges as guaranteed by our religion and the Constitution”.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said the government stands committed to the preservation of rights of minorities in Pakistan and has taken a number of concrete steps for their welfare.
He said Islam ordains equality of rights and protects religious freedom of all faiths. The Prime Minister said one of the top priorities of the present democratic government is to protect the rights of the minorities and further empower them.
He asserted, “The government of Pakistan stands committed to the preservation of rights of minorities in Pakistan and has taken a number of concrete steps for their welfare”.
He said it was a matter of satisfaction that, we continue to be one nation living with mutual respect, honour, peace and harmony. We recognize that our minorities as equal citizens of the state.
