Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf urges opposition to resolve issues for free polls
Saturday, August 11th, 2012 11:37:30 by Faisal FarooqReiterating his previous stance, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has invited opposition parties to sit with the government, asking them to resolve issues for holding of free, fair and transparent polls.
While speaking to his party workers, the premier said they should resolve issues by sitting together instead of leveling allegations against each other.
He asked the parties to settle matters as was done in the case of appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
Prime Minister Ashraf made it clear that people will decide fate of political parties in the next general polls and it will be the final decision whatever verdict they will make.
He added, “We depend on the people and they are with Pakistan People’s Party. The Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) will emerge victorious in the next elections also”.
The prime minister also gave assurance that the polls would be held in a free, fair and transparent way.
Ashraf was of the opinion that the time for elections has approached and the party and its workers were ready to create new history.
In his view, they believe on free and fair elections, hence, they are always ready for it.
He added, “President Asif Ali Zardari has instructed that leaders and workers of the party to begin contacting people in their respective areas and resolve their problems. The need for healthy politics saying everybody should shun character assassination, abusive language and fighting in politics”.
The premier continued that people were still connected to the party despite all the mudslinging, propaganda and media trials.
He said that his party had a history of unprecedented sacrifices and its leaders including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto embraced martyrdom for the rights of people and continuation of democratic system.
He added that President Zardari took forward the party’s policy of political reconciliation but didn’t compromise on principles.
Ashraf said that the PPP was removed from power through conspiracies and its detractors were surprised when it made a comeback with the support of people even after the suppression at the hands of dictators.
