Former world number one, Novak Djokovic from Serbia, crushed his compatriot, Janko Tipsarevic, with a breadstick at the Rogers Cup 2012 on Saturday. He notched up a 6-4, 6-1 victory against the world number eight to cruise into the final showdown at this
Masters 1000 series taking place in Toronto, Canada.
Djokovic remained on the right path to successfully defend his title after triumphing over his fifth seeded compatriot at the Rexall Centre. The Serbian top ranked star not only avenged his loss at the Mutua Madrid Open earlier this circuit but also improved
to 5-2 record in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Head 2 Head series against Tipsarevic.
The jubilant Serb, who was frustrated because of rain delays, stated in an on-court interview after the match:
“It really could have gone either way, especially in the first set with the several interruptions because of rain; it was very important for both of us to start off well after those delays. You could feel that there was a lot of tension going on and we both
were trying to find the rhythm on the court."
Next in queue for Djokovic is the 14th seed, Richard Gasquet, who upset the American number one, John Isner, in straight sets to set up this final battle.The Serb needs to play his origional game in order to capture the title.
The beaming Frenchman fended off early resilience posed by the eighth seed, eventually sealing the deal with a 7-6(3), 6-3 score line.
The French star stunned fourth seeded Tomas Berdych in straight sets and eleventh seeded Mardy Fish in a three-set thriller en route to the final showdown. Gasquet has also won bronze medal at the London Olympics 2012 with Julien Benneteau.
