Democracy in Pakistan only because of Chief Justice: Aitzaz Ahsan
Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 2:59:20 by Fayyaz YaseenLahore: Renowned lawyer, intellectual and Pakistan People’s Party’s prominent leader, Aitzaz Ahsan said here today that the credit of restoration of democracy in Pakistan goes to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He said
if he (CJ) had not stood against the dictator, Pervez Musharraf would still have ruled the country.
Aitzaz, who was addressing a programme organized to celebrate Pakistan’s 65th Independence day at Aiwan-e-Iqbal here, said that all the state institutions should function within their constitutional ambit.
He said, “No institution is supreme.” He further added that the two-third majority passed the bill, and it would have been supreme. He also said that he still firmly stuck to the views he expressed in a foreign TV program.
Commenting on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Ahsan said that the party yet to have a visible face and that its leaders should exercise caution. He said, “Chanting a slogan of change after allowing politicians like Shaikh Rashid into
its folds is astonishing.”
