Will David Haye and Vitali Klitschko’s fight be worth making for the fans?
Sunday, August 19th, 2012 9:50:38 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer WBA heavyweight champion David Haye promised a lot of things ahead of his mega fight with the current WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO & The Ring Heavyweight Champion, Wladimir Klitschko, which took place last year at the Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany.
The 31-year-old brash Londoner practically stalked Wladimir for almost three years before finally getting his chance at the heavyweight glory. However, when the night came he showed a lackluster performance and disappointed millions of boxing fans all over the world by losing the fight to a one-sided unanimous decision loss.
After showing a poor performance, the Brit came up with an excuse that he had an injured toe as a result to which he couldn’t launch his Hayemaker punch, something which brought him a lot of criticism and forced many to speculate that Haye’s nine year boxing career would be ended now.
Haye did walk away from the sport but in February he brawled with his fellow countryman Dereck Chisora at a post fight press conference, which followed Chisora’s twelve-round unanimous loss to Vitali Klitschko.
Both fighters locked many headlines in the country for bring disrepute to the sport so much so that the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) to sanction their grudge match. Nevertheless, the fight went on, as the Luxembourg Boxing Federation stepped in to sanction the bout.
It looked as if the fight between the two Londoners will not get much attention but everyone was left flabbergasted when both fighters pulled a crowd of over 32,000 people in the Arena.
This was a fight which Haye fought like a main stage fighter and eventually became the first man ever to knockout Chisora. Haye’s impressive win once again brought him back under the main lights and more significantly in line for another fight with Klitschko, something which he desperately wanted.
However, this time Haye is looking for Wladimir’s elder brother Vitali, who currently holds the WBC title.
Though nothing has been confirmed as of yet, assuming the fight does take place in the next year, will it be worth it or not because boxing fans really doesn’t want to see another scrappy bout.
Well, keeping Vitali’s fighting style in front it looks as if a fight between the two would please the fans since Vitali likes to attack whereas Wladimir is defense-minded. Against Wladimir, Haye could find a way inside but things will be different against Vitali and people might get to see an explosive fight.
