Tablets vs. Ultrabooks: Which one is the future of our computing world? – Part 2
Monday, August 20th, 2012 4:08:09 by Usman KhalidMoreover, tablets have one thing that takes them leap ahead of the ultrabook and that is the touch screen interaction. Not only laptops but desktops and all-in-ones are starting to follow the suit in this regard to allow touch screen interaction to the users.
However, when it comes to performance, only laptops with more rigorous processors are the better choice. There are some slim laptops that even replace desktops, let alone tablets. But they also come at premium prices.
On the other hand, the tablets are evolving to nip at the heel of ultrabooks. Microsoft recently entered the original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) segment with launch of Surface tablets. There are two slates released by the company, RT and Pro.
RT is targeted at the normal 10.1-inch tablets with a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The latter, Surface Pro, is the danger to ultrabooks. Equipped with an Intel Core i3 dual-core processor, tablet takes at direct stab at the ultrabook market.
Its slimmer chassis, smaller footprint and simple slab-like shape makes it extremely portable as compared to an ultrabook. Moreover, the TouchCovers and TypeCovers make the typing easy in a very innovative way.
Many experts have touted that the tablets are the next PCs. Windows 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion are some of the examples that solidify the premise. Many corporate companies are of the strong opinion to replace desktops and laptops with cheaper and portable tablets.
The evolution of slates does not bode well for ultrabook and laptop category. However, from the customer’s perspective more efficient tablets mean ease of life.
