The Curse of beggary and Pakistan

Pakistan is among those few countries where the curse of beggary is not only prevalent, but it is rife. It is not that the country is very poor where every other person is deprived of the basic necessities of life, it is only because on a whole, the nation
believes in charity works, and certain elements of the society tend to benefit from this positive side of the entire society.
Several researches, investigations and media reports have proved that beggary in Pakistan is more of a profession successfully run by the patrons of the usually beggars we see on the streets. And ironically, due to a giving nature of the society, these beggars
end up earning hefty amounts of money. On average, a usually beggar in big cities like Lahore and Karachi earns about 2000 to 3000 rupees a day, while there are others who earn even more.
It is perhaps because of the earning margin in this ‘profession’ that even non-deserving get into it for some easy and quick money. Those who really deserve financial aid from their fellow brothers, most of the times, prefer not to spread their hands before
anyone and end up suffering at the mercy of time and exploitative situations.
There is a consensus in the society that beggary is a curse, and that it should be eradicated. Beggars not only exhibit a passive side of the society and discourage others to earn their living through legitimate ways, they also take away the money which
is meant to be for the deserving sections of the society looking for free medical care and other needs.
In order to eradicate this phenomenon, the society, along with the government will have to establish institutions which would not only stop the beggars but to also set up a system where the charity money could reach to those who really deserve it.
