Visio CT14 (2012): Full Review of the company’s first computer – Part 3
Thursday, August 23rd, 2012 11:35:53 by Usman KhalidThe same is the case with CT14. It has some of the best hardware options and then some of cost-effective ones. All of them drop in different price categories. There are three denominations of the CT14 available. The $1,199 (most expensive of them all) option has a Core i7/256GB solid-state drive (SSD) configuration. The least expensive $899 has a Core i3 dual-core processor with 128GB SSD. The middle option clocked at $949 has a Core i5 and all the basic ingredients of the aforementioned.
All of them come with a 1,600×900-pixel-resolution display, 4GB of RAM, and Intel’s integrated HD 4000 graphics inside the third-generation processor.
When it comes to ports, the CT14 is less than stellar in those ergonomics. Not only does it have an irritating track pad and a retro keyboard but is also limited on ports. There are only two USB 3.0 ports, one on either side; one HDMI port on right side; headphones jack, without the microphone option; no Ethernet and above all no SD card reader.
With a limited SSD storage option, the inclusion of external storage options becomes imperial to facilitate users. The lack of Ethernet is covered by WiFi included but still there are times when a wired connection is required or is the only option available.
Final Take
However, it you can live within these constraints, then the Visio CT14 is the best option, especially the $949 Core i5 version. The design is good to show it off to friends and the hardware spec sheet is quite impressive. The only conundrums in the device are the track pad, keyboard and the lack of SD card. But if Visio can be forgiven for the naïve decision made, CT14 is hard pass by.
