Pakistan terms drone strike violation of international laws

Terming drone campaign of unmanned US aircrafts as severe violation of international law and sovereignty of the country, Pakistan on Friday once again asked the United States to halt the spy attacks.

At least 18 more people killed in three more US drone attacks in North Waziristan on today just after a day after Islamabad summoned top American diplomat to lodge protest against the CIA-led drone campaign.

During weekly media briefing Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesman Moazzam Ahmed Khan said that they have clear point of view over the drone attacks, adding that these were uncooperative and counterproductive to combat the war on terror.

He informed that the officials in Islamabad were in contact with the officials in Washington to solve the issue, adding various option were under consideration to stop the drone attacks.

Moazzam Khan said that the Pak-US strategic dialogue would take place this year.

He observed, “Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and Indian allegations regarding nuclear attack are baseless. Pakistan has no link with Assam violence. Indian allegation of hate messages by Pakistan are baseless and it should provide evidences if they have”.

Commenting about the bilateral ties between Pakistan relations with Afghanistan, the spokesman said that both the neighboring states would solve all the issues including terrorism and security.

Moreover, he was of the opinion that they wouldn’t allow anyone to use our territory against any other country.

It is vital to mention here that the Thursday’s development it was occurred for the first time as Islamabad last month summoned Richard Hoagland, the senior-most US diplomat in the country, in a similar manner to protest against a series of drone attacks but to no avail.

The Obama administration has been pushing Pakistan for years to carry out a military operation against Haqqani network in the North Waziristan Agency, who according to them launch attacks on the NATO forces battling in Afghanistan.

According to an international advocacy group, the US had launched a total of 336 drone strikes in Pakistan, killing between 2,532 and 3,251 people since 2004.

The London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism noted that 284 of these strikes were ordered by the Obama administration.
