Imran Khan vows to build new Pakistan
Saturday, August 25th, 2012 10:02:48 by Faisal FarooqVowing to build new Pakistan through their economic planning, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said his party will inspire people to pay taxes.
Addressing a seminar the cricketer-turned-politician said, “Pakistan is a country which pays more charity than taxes because people know their money would not be used properly. Even I feel bad about paying taxes”.
The PTI on Friday revealed its Economic Policy Vision with claims of doubling the tax to GDP ratio. In his view, the law and order situation was a major hurdle in bringing economic reforms in the country.
He added, “The business community in Pakistan is scared; factories are moving away to Bangladesh and Dubai”.
Repeating his stance on the war on terror, Khan said Pakistan needs to pull itself out of the war to ensure law and order in Pakistan.
Reiterating his previous stance, the former captain said that the country needs to pull itself out of the war to improve security situation.
Imran Khan was of the opinion that the peace-march to Waziristan was a test even for his own party members as the security situation was very alarming in the region.
He, however, made it clear that they would go to Waziristan and this decision will prove that the party has the capability to make big decisions.
Commenting about numerous mafias working in the country, the PTI leader said that people were scared to speak against them because they know these gangs have associations with people in power.
He commended the role of overseas Pakistanis saying the initial support needed to bring the country out of crisis will come from the people living abroad.
“People need to make Pakistan suitable for investment for its citizens living abroad. We can only do so by ensuring rule of law and good governance,” he added.
Imran Khan urged the authorities to depoliticize institutions for improving their performance, adding that they could work well only if they are independent and run on merit.
He emphasized the significance of estimable team, be it for any sport or for running a country.
Replying to a query about Pakistan’s relationships with other countries particularly India and Israel, Khan said Pakistan needs to renew its connections with the international community.
He, however, said they couldn’t trade or have a working relation with Israel because what it was doing with the Palestinians was not acceptable to Pakistan.
