Apple-Samsung case will not affect Android sales, says Gene Munster – Part 2
Monday, August 27th, 2012 4:34:59 by Usman KhalidAccording to Munster, a court appeal is in order from Samsung but Apple will not rest at all. The Cupertino-based company is expected to look for injunctions on a number of Samsung products, smartphones and tablets alike.
According to him most of the decisions in the coming days are expected to be settlements between Apple and other Android-based smartphone manufacturers. Majority of the modifications are expected to arise more in the line of software changes like the bounce-back scrolling feature in the iOS.
“We believe that Samsung is likely to make software modifications to devices to work around the patented software features in question,” Munster asserts. “For devices that infringe on design patents, we believe those devices may no longer be sold in the U.S.; however, it does not appear that newer devices, including the Galaxy SIII are impacted. Net-net, we do not believe Samsung will see any meaningful interruption, likely only minor interruption, in device sales in the U.S.”
Moreover, he said that Samsung’s upcoming models are likely to work around the patents in question. There will be some design changes and major software alterations.
“In these cases, we note that software changes are the most likely competitive outcome (aside from monetary exchanges),” he added. We do not believe further settlements are likely to hamstring Android in any serious way.”
Some of the devices released this year are not expected to take a hit from the outcome of the case. Samsung SIII, Galaxy Note and Note 10.1 are some of the devices that will not be effected by the ruling.
Munster was optimistic in stating that both iOS and Android devices will continue to amaze the world. The contemporary market is all about apps and services and both are expected to outdo each other down the road.
Wireless technology is also one of the most important. Apple is expected to launch the next generation iPhone, hailed iPhone 5, this September with iOS 6. The device is anticipated to incorporate 4G LTE for the first time in Apple’s smartphone line.
