PM Ashraf forms committee on Dr. Aafia’s case
Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 7:00:43 by Fayyaz YaseenIslamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has formed four-member committee headed by the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar, to look into Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s case. The decision to form the committee to take
up the lingering issue of the Pakistani girl jailed in the USA was taken after a meeting here at the Prime Minister House today.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had a meeting with former Attorney General of USA, Ramsey Clark and Dr Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui as they called on the PM.
Other members of the committee constituted by PM Ashraf include the federal minister for law, minister for interior and human rights.
During the meeting, the visiting guests took up and discussed the matters pertinent to Dr Aafia Siddiqui and demanded for Government of Pakistan to play its role for release of the innocent girl who has been detained for baseless
charges.
According to the formal statement over the meeting released by the Prime Minister House, the Prime Minister gave Dr Fauzia a very patient hearing and said he understood the agony of her family and assured her of all possible assistance.
