Australian booming star, Bernard Tomic, got the better of the Argentinean star, Carlos Berlocq, in a four-set thriller at the Flushing Meadows 2012 on Tuesday. He penned down a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 victory against the world number 44 to power into the second
round at this last of the four Grand Slam event held in Corona Park in Queens, United states.
The Australian teenager made a poor start and lost the opening set. However, he found his rhythm afterwards and carved out the victory in two hours and 49 minutes. As a result, Tomic convincingly progressed into the round of 64 at this major hard court event
taking place form 27th August to 9th September.
The 19-year-old lost the opening set but cashed in half of the 14 break opportunities to steal the limelight. He amazingly warded off six out of 11 breakpoints he came across and hammered 59 winners to prevail.
Up next for Tomic is the former world number one, Andy Roddick.
"I think it’s going to be very big for me," said the Aussie youngster in an on-court interview about his next match up against the 2003 titlist. "I think I’m playing well. I think if I play well, the way I was playing today in the second and third set and
the end of the match, I can pull off the win."
The 20th seeded Roddick trounced his qualifying compatriot, Rhyne Williams, in straight sets in just under two hours.
"There is no ‘acceptable result’," said the jubilant Roddick in a post match press conference. "You play your second round, try to win your second round. You go as far as you want. Or as far as you can. I don’t think we think of it in the context of what’s
acceptable and what’s not. You play a match to try and win a match."
