President Zardari says PPP can run democracy

The president while addressing a gathering organized under the banner of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) said tolerance and patience were necessary for the smooth functioning of democratic system.
He further said that they had proved in the last four and a half years of their government that they had acquired capability to run the democracy in the country.
He observed, “Addition of free social services like health, accident insurance, vocational training and interest-free financing for self-employment would make the BISP the most productive initiative of the government”.
He praised the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, saying that she had firmly believed in democracy being the best revenge against the forces of dictatorship. Moving on the same lines, he said he had raised the slogan of democracy is the best revenge after the assassination of BB.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the BISP, he said the programme was the flagship of the government to reduce poverty and empower women in the country. It was developing into a comprehensive social protection, poverty alleviation and women empowerment platform, he added.
President Zardari noted, “It is a matter of pride that the BISP had progressed and was becoming a comprehensive social safety net and adding that it had attracted worldwide appreciation for its transparency, objectivity and efficiency. To reach over seven million families in a short span of four years is indeed a major achievement”.
Praising BISP chairperson Farzana Raja and her team for making this programme a landmark achievement, he also offered thanks to the international community for providing assistance to it.
The president was of the view that he was personally monitoring the progress of the poverty scorecard survey, adding that it was gratifying to note that the national roll-out of this survey was progressing well.
He continued that the countrywide programme had already been completed in Balochistan and other far-flung areas of the country.
In his view, the progress of the Benazir Smart Cart would further make the project transparent and successful.
