Madhur Bhandarkar wants ‘Heroine’ to garner success and critical acclaim
Thursday, August 30th, 2012 11:06:23 by Imran Shaukat KhanIndian director Madhur Bhandarkar is best known for making female-oriented films like ‘Chandni Bar’, Page 3’ and ‘Fashion’ but he has insisted that it doesn’t mean that he is gender-biased.
Bhandarkar is currently awaiting the release his film ‘Heroine’, which is yet another female-centric movie and perhaps this is a reason why many out have started to believe as if he is gender-biased.
While speaking on his inclusion, Bhandarkar claimed he only aims at making good movies and he is not gender-biased at all.
“For me, it is very necessary to make a good film, which garners success and critical acclaim. National Awards definitely come later,” said Bhandarkar.
“I am never gender-biased. I would agree that the ratio of female actresses is more in my films and that’s why people think I make only women-oriented films but that’s not the case. All of it depends upon what I like at that time,” he added.
Well, whether Bhandarkar is gender-biased or not is a separate issue but one thing has to be admitted that his films have not only helped him carve a niche for himself, they became turning point in female actresses’ career as well.
Tabu and Priyanka Chopra both won National Award for their performances in Bhandarkar’s films Chandni Bar and Fashion respectively and now everyone is curious to see whether if Kareena will be able to win one or not.
However, when Kareena was asked about it she said she is not aiming a National Award. The 31-year-old, who is considered as the ultimate diva of Bollywood industry, stressed she only wants her film to do well and that’s all she needs.
Kareena told TOI, “I don’t want the national award… I seriously don’t need any such thing. I would only want the audience to go and watch the film once and that will be more than enough for me. Once everybody should see the movie and say it is a good watch.”
‘Heroine’ is slated to hit the cinema halls on September 21 and along with Kareena, the film will feature the likes of Arjun Rampal, Randeep Hooda and Shahana Goswami in the key roles.
