Unidentified people killed Session Judge in Quetta
Thursday, August 30th, 2012 11:43:06 by Faisal FarooqUnidentified on Thursday killed session judge Zulfiqar Naqvi along with his driver in GOR Colony at Saryab Road when he was in way to his office.
Senior police officer Wazir Khan while talking to the media said that the attackers were waiting for the judge at a railway crossing, the moment the car slowed down, the assailants sprayed bullets and fled.
According to him, the target of the attack was the judge and it appeared to be a sectarian incident. He said that the assailants were riding a motorbike.
There was no claim of responsibility for the incident but Balochistan has been a flashpoint for violence between majority Sunnis and Shias, who make up around 20 per cent of the population.
Earlier, three members of the Hazara community in Quetta were killed and four others injured, including a two-year-old passerby, when armed assailants opened fire on the yellow cab they were travelling in on Spiny Road in the Killi Mubarak area.
Sectarian conflict has left thousands of people dead since the late 1980s, and the province also suffers militant attacks and a separatist insurgency.
Human rights groups have heavily criticized Pakistan for failing to crack down on sectarian violence between the country’s majority Sunni and minority Shiite communities that has killed thousands.
Earlier, United Nation General Secretary Ban Ki Moon has taken notice of the latest killing of Shias in Pakistan where militants are active in destabilizing the region.
A statement released by UN spokesman Martin Nesirky strongly condemned the attack while talking to the media said he was appalled by the sectarian killing in Pakistan.
It added, “The secretary general expresses his outrage over such deliberate attacks on people due to their religious beliefs in Pakistan”.
