Samsung releases new Galaxy Note at IFA Show in Berlin

Samsung Electronics launched the new version of its phablet called Samsung Galaxy Note II. The new smartphone was introduced to the public at the IFA Electronics Show in Berlin.

A phablet is an intelligent amalgamation of certain features of a smartphone in a body and screen size of a mini tablet. Galaxy Note and Note II are two of products in this category among  LG Vu and the upcoming device from HTC dubbed Phablet by some sources.

The new Note II has some marginal and some substantial upgrades to the smartphone. The new device is bigger than the predecessor with a 5.5-inch Super-AMOLED screen, compared to the 5.3-inch display in Note. It is also marginally thinner.

The stylus has received some reinforcements as an aerial cursor navigation function. The user can now hover the cursor on the screen without even touching the screen with the S-Pen.

Moreover, the processor has been upgraded to 1.6 GHz with four cores and RAM has been increased to 2 GB.

Although the Galaxy Note did not receive an upgrade to Android’s newest version called Jelly Bean, the Note II comes preinstalled with it.

This is the first release from the Korean electronics giants after the US-based Apple-Samsung case. The jury in the case passed a verdict in favour of Apple and fined Samsung with over a billion dollar for wilful infringement of six of seven filed patents. The case proceedings were held in San Jose, California.

Some experts are of the opinion that Samsung has made an attempt to clear out some of the opprobrium on its company. The release of Galaxy Note II is an intelligent move as the original Note was one of the smartphones not listed in banned handsets.

Samsung shares took at Seoul stock exchange after the verdict and fell 7.5 percent. However, the release of Note II inculcated some confidence in investors and Tuesday saw a rise of 1.3 percent and the following day 2.9 percent.
