Jeremy Hunt to end his season at the end of 2012 season

Jeremy Hunt has decided to say good bye to his professional career and will retire right at the end of 2012 season. The cyclist has enjoyed the top level of sport for a vast period of three decades and has now decided to draw the curtains down.

Team Banesto signed him for the first time in 1996 and Jeremy’s performances were good enough to keep him with the team for four years, through 1999.

He accepted an offer from Team BigMat-Auber 93 in 2000 and stayed with the team by the end of 2002 before Team MBK-Oktos hired him for 2003 season.

Hunt rode in Team Cervelo colours through 2009-10 after spending on year with Team Credit Agricole (2008). He currently rides with the British side, Team Sky Procycling after signing a deal with the team back in 2011.

“As a young boy I dreamed of racing my bike professionally. With the support and guidance of many, I was able to pursue those dreams,” he noted on Team Sky website.

“Through the difficult times and memorable moments, the experiences during my career have been far more fulfilling and memorable than I would have ever imagined”.

“Those moments will stay with me forever, have matured me and have given me a lifetime of experiences”.

“I know cycling will always remain a part of my life, whether I am a professional or city commuter, as it is my passion,” he concluded.

There were several names on the Canadian’s thanking list, including the Mid Devon road club and Colin Lewis, who guided him as a young boy.

He also showed gratitude to Bob Grinsell, CC Giro, Pascal Codier at St Quentin who taught and coached him through the tough phases of his life.

Hunt also mentioned that he has ridden with numerous professional teams but Team Sky is one side he felt as comfortable as in home.

He has a total number of 43 first place finishes in his career and some of his top performances include the GP Ouest-France 2002, GP d’Ouverture La Marseillaise 2007 and National Road Race Championships in 1997 and 2001.
