Expressing concerns over the continued absence of Attorney General Irfan Qadir, the Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned all concerned federal secretaries for the next hearing at the Quetta Registry.

A three-member bench of the apex court resumed hearing of a petition on the law and order situation violation of human rights in Balochistan.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja heard the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association.

The chief justice during the haring expressed annoyance over the absence of Irfan Qadir, saying that the federal and attorney general were least interested in resolving the issue.

He observed, “The attorney general would not be allowed to enter the courts without permission. The secretaries should be present in the court for their defence”.

Chief Justice Chaudhry inquired the status of the son of Amirudin Agha, who was kidnapped few days ago.

While replying to this, Home Secretary Nasibullah Bazai said that they had made six raids for this purpose but to not succeed thus far.

The chief justice said, “As you had assured of it, you should have done it—the security of the people is your responsibility”.

It is vital to mention here that Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Nawabzada Talal Bugti was also present during the hearing.

Later, Inspector General Police Balochistan Tariq Omar Khitab submitted a notification to quash shoulder promotions in the court.

Upon which, the chief justice directed all police officers who had been transferred to Quetta and were attempting to reverse the measure should report to the Balochistan government within a week.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Justice Iftikhar inquired over the killings of Shia Muslims in the province, directing IG Balochistan to produce a list of victims of targeted killings in the province over the past six months.

He also said that police officials were violating rulings of the court and the situation had deteriorated to the extent that a district judge was not safe in the province.
