Wasim Akram criticises Pakistan team for loss to Australia
Wednesday, September 5th, 2012 3:31:54 by Rana Nasir GhafoorFormer Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has lashed out at the Green Shirts for their embarrassing 2-1 loss to Australia. Pakistan had a very good chance of beating Australia in ODI series after ten years, but the Cornered Tigers missed the opportunity, and suffered
an awful 3-wicket defeat in the series decider on Monday.
The swing master also questioned Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy, adding that the side made some big blunders in all three departments of the game. Giving his comments to a Pakistan-based TV channel, Akram said:
"As far as captain Misbah is concerned in this series he has appeared out of sorts as a captain, batsman and fielder and made some costly tactical mistakes on the field."
He added, "It was a mistake to send in Shahid Afridi at number 3 as he now plays as a bowler in the side. He is used to play his big shots in the final five or four overs. He doesn’t have the application to bat when they are more half of the 50 overs remaining."
The legendary fast bowler also described that Shahid Afiridi should be considered as a specialist bowler, who clicked only once in a while. He also pointed out some big flaws in the batting order, saying that Kamran Akmal should be given a chance to bat
up the order.
"The batting order was all wrong I have been saying Kamran Akmal has to be used in the higher order and he is being wasted at number seven and eight. Yesterday he went in at number eight and it was a waste of time for him. He should have been sent in earlier
so that he got a chance to bat himself in and gain his batting confidence," he uttered.
Talking about the continuous failure of the Pakistan batting line-up, Akram explained that the batsmen are not playing their nature game, and therefore not performing well. Meanwhile, he advised the side not to bank heavily on spinners.
"It was a strategy that didn’t work despite the conditions. Saeed Ajmal bowled brilliantly throughout the series and he is easily the best off break bowler today in international cricket. But Pakistan must also depend on pace," the left-arm former pacer
opined.
