DNC convention shines brighter than celebrities

By the time you hear for the third time in 24 hours, “Hey, Adrian Grenier was here!” you may wonder: Is this all there is?
With all due respect to the shaggy former co-star of “Entourage,” his hyped presence at many convention events (speaking at a Bill Clinton fundraiser; singing with his band at a private party) only amplified the absence of bigger names. George Clooney,a
top fundraiser for President Obama , is not expected. Jeff Bridges made
early rounds but jetted out before the speeches started. The most visible stars: B-listers (Rosario Dawson,will.i.am., Ashley Judd) who are regulars on the celebvocacy circuit. Convention hall stargazers made due Tuesday with John Leguizamo, Tony Shalhoub and
the guy who played Newman on “Seinfeld.”
DNC vets say showbiz support hasn’t faltered — there’s just less of an outpouring as in their watershed years like 1992 and 2008. Or are the stars just pacing themselves?: CNN
reports that Natalie Portman,Scarlett Johansson and Kerry Washington are expected to speak Thursday.
