Thursday, September 6th, 2012 4:41:14 by Usman KhalidApple is now inching near the official launch of the next generation iPhone. The company released an invite to a September 12 event to be staged at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California.
It is official now that Apple is holding the event on the day however, the release of iPhone was still teased by the company. The invitation, which was mailed to media personnel via email, read ‘It’s almost here’ and the date September 12 with an artistic shadow that mimicked the digit ‘5’.
iMore, a worldwide known blog dedicated to electronic gadgetry news, Apple products in particular, aired the news first in mid-July that Apple will allegedly release the handset on September 12. However, there were other sources that suggested that the event might be held on Friday, September 21.
Now that the news has been confirmed that the Cupertino-based company will hold the show on Sep 12, the general consensus is that the shadowy 5 underneath 12 on the invitation refers to iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S, Apple’s to-date latest iteration of its flagship handset was released on October last year, days after co-founder and ex-CEO Steve Jobs passed away.
The new handset is expected to bring major upgrades to the technology used in the 4S. For one, it is widely expected to be 4G LTE compatible as the new iPad has broken ice on the next generation broadband connectivity.
There are also rumours that the new handset will have a different hardware form factor, aka shape and design. The screen is anticipated to be the major part of the presentation. Several sources have suggested that phone will have a 4-inch display with 16:9 aspect ratio.
Among other expectations is a quad-core processor and increased screen brightness to compete with AMOLED.
