Criticizing the government, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the incumbent was making efforts to postpone the general elections by reintroducing local body system.

While speaking to the media, the opposition leader warned the government against using delaying tactics to slow down the electoral process.

He observed, “If the government tries to postpone the general elections, not only the government but somebody else will also have to go. Neither does the government possess the courage to postpone the expected general elections nor can it do so”.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan asked members of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) not to try and take credit for ensuring fair and transparent polls.

He noted, “It is for the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure transparent elections and not the present government”.

The PML-N leader said he had still started establishing contacts other opposition parties for finalizing two proposed names for the interim premier even though it was not binding on him.

He informed the media that he held discussion with Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Sardar Akhtar Mengal while his party also took the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on board.

Replying to a query, he said that there will be no formal talks with PPP as the track record of the party was not good in fulfilling its promises.

The opposition leader said, “The PPP leaders went to Senator Ishaq Dar again and again and we finally decided to hear them out. But I have refused to attend meetings with them”.

“It was decided at a recent meeting chaired by Nawaz Sharif that the PML-N will not enter into formal talks with the PPP government which in the last four-and-a-half years has backed out of all its promises and commitments,” he further added.

Commenting about new federating units, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan reiterated his party’s demand for a national commission.

He was of the opinion that his party has decided the division of the province would be made in accordance with the two resolutions passed by the provincial assembly.

The PML-N leader asked the ruling party to stop suing the issue of new provinces as a political stunt to target opposition parties.
