Pacer Muhammad Amir regretful for his mistake
Thursday, September 6th, 2012 11:51:18 by Faisal FarooqMuhammad Amir, one of the three Pakistani cricketers jailed for spot-fixing, regretted for his mistake, pledging that he will put in all his efforts with honesty and sincerity if he is given another chance.
In his first appearance on national television, the legendary pacer said that he had learned a lot from his mistakes.
He observed, “I cannot explain the pain I go through each day. It hurts to see the team play and then realize I can’t be part of that. I messed it all up because of one mistake. But I apologize for that and promise that if I’m given another chance, I will put in all my effort with sincerity and honesty”.
He was of the opinion that missing the 2011 World Cup semi-final against India in Mohali was the lowest point of his career,
Despite the trials, the ban from cricket and the prison term, the fast-bowler still rued missing the high-profile Mohali encounter the most.
He noted, “I was so heartbroken that I couldn’t even watch that match. I could tell from my family members’ faces that they would’ve loved to see me on television then. I just got up and left. Missing that match was my biggest loss”.
The pacer, even so, is remained positive about his comeback into the national side after completing his five-year ban that ends in 2015.
He further said that he was never involved in any sort of wrongdoing at any level in the sport ahead of the spot-fixing episode in England.
He was of the view that he doesn’t want to get into the blame game again and just want to look ahead to the future, adding that he played with honesty and was forced into this trap.
Replying to a query, the fast-bowler said that no one came help him in the testing times. Many of my friends created distance due to the whole match-fixing fiasco and the subsequent imprisonment, he added.
He, however, said that he had gotten moral support from those he never expected. Offering thanks to Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad, and Shoaib Akhtar, he said they all motivated him during the testing times, he added.
