Harbhajan Singh delighted to see Yuvraj Singh back in action
Friday, September 7th, 2012 2:26:11 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAll eyes will be glued on Yuvraj Singh, as India take on New Zealand in the opening T20 international on Saturday. The 30-year-old is returning to action after battling cancer, which was diagnosed late last year.
Yuvraj went through chemotherapy in America in March-April to treat a rare germ-cell tumour between his lungs. He will be seen in action for the first time since two-match Test series against West Indies last November.
The World Cup hero is happy to make a comeback, saying that it is hard to believe that he will be playing for country once again. Ahead of the first T20 encounter, he said:
“It is hard to believe that I will be playing for India again. A few months back I had trouble climbing four steps, now I can’t wait to take the field. It is like starting a new life."
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is also happy to see his old friend back in the field. The offie, who is also making his comeback after more than a year, was not reluctant to say that Yuvi is an inspirational cricketer, and returning to action after
cancer treatment is called the real comeback.
"Now this is what we call a comeback," said Harbhajan. "There can’t be a bigger inspiration in cricket than Yuvi. It is a privilege to be back in the dressing room with him."
The Black Caps have not shown anything special so far on the tour. They were thrashed 2-0 by the Men in Blue in the recent Test series. Nonetheless, Jacob Oram is hopeful for a positive outcome in the T20 series.
“We are here to win but whatever happens we have to make sure we learn from the series because it’s great preparation. You are not going to get a tougher competition than playing India in India. Fifty-over champs but perennial T20 favourites as well," Oram
said.
