Friday, September 7th, 2012 10:37:38 by Faisal FarooqIn the continued wave of violence, unidentified armed men killed Superintendent Police (SP) Investigation on Friday near his residence located in the Kili Gul Muhammad area of Quetta.
According to the initial reports, unknown attackers riding on a motorbike intercepted the car of SP Jamil Kakar as soon as he left his home.
They opened fire at him, killing him at the spot while his guard sustained severe injuries in the incident.
According to the reports, SP Jamil Kakar was heading towards Supreme Court’s Quetta registry to appear in Balochistan law order case law.
The deceased police official, who was posted at Brewery Road Police Station in Quetta as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was later promoted to the post of SP and was transferred to Saryab Road Police Station.
He received numerous death threats in the recent days due to the sensitive nature of his job.
It is vital to mention here that the police have been frequently coming under attack in the metropolis city, several police personnel have been killed while several have sustained injuries in targeted killings and bomb blasts.
A three-judge bench of the apex court with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in the chair was hearing a case on law and order situation of the province.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack but Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, has been a flashpoint for violence.
Sectarian and militancy has left thousands of people dead since the late 1980s, and the province also suffers Taliban attacks and a separatist insurgency.
Baloch insurgents picked up armed against state in 2004, demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region’s oil, gas and mineral resources.
Bomb blasts and attacks on police and security forces are frequent in the province, which is one of the most deprived areas of Pakistan.
