Terming the newly issued ordinance a significant step in the direction of devolution of power to the grassroots, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said that restoration of the Local Government System in Sindh would help in furthering harmony and brotherhood among the people.

According to a statement, the MQM chief congratulated President Asif Zardari, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, ministers belonging to the PPP and the MQM, members of the Sindh Assembly, leaders, workers and the people of Sindh on the restoration of the local government system in the province.

The statement quoted Altaf Hussain appealing to coalition partners to back the policy formulated by Sindh government for welfare of the people of the province and towards way out of their issues.

He observed, “The rights of the allied parties would also be protected and their reservations would be removed. I and President Asif Ali Zardari are determined to stand by each other to make the country developed and progressive”.

Altaf Hussain was of the opinion that Karachi was not only the part of Sindh but it is the economic hub of the country.

He remarked, “Every child in Pakistan knows that the ANP and its leaders are responsible for the bloodshed of its own people in order to please their foreign masters in return for monetary benefits. These elements and their party, the ANP, are advocating the system that was introduced in the subcontinent by the British in order to prolong their grip on power.”

He urged leaders of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to work to make the province a place of peace and harmony, adding that the basic problems of the people should be solved and a system should be evolved that did not discriminate between communities.

The MQM chief noted, “Crimes should be eliminated from Sindh and the law should be applied universally and anyone breaking the law should be dealt with irrespective of his political affiliations”.
