Researchers believe Popular students become Smokers
A new study by reseachers at the University of Southern California claims that students who are popular among classmates are more likely to start smoking.
This conclusion is based on surveys of 1,950 teenagers in ninth and 10th grades at high schools in Southern California.
It was found that students rated most popular were more likely to smoke than peers with fewer friends. Popularity was measured by how often the kids named someone as a friend.
