Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf leaves for China to attend WEF
Monday, September 10th, 2012 2:59:14 by Faisal FarooqIn his first official visit to China, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday left for China on a four-day trip to attend the meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF), scheduled to be held from September 10 to 13 at Tianjin.
While speaking to the media at Benazir Bhutto Airport, the premier said that the WEF was significant platform to interact with world leaders, economic experts and heads of international financial institutions.
He observed, “I will also interact with Chinese leaders especially the Prime Minister of China Wen Jiabao and discuss all range of issues relating to cooperation in trade, economic and energy sector”.
He was of the opinion that China is trust worth friend of Pakistan and it always supported Pakistan in all odds and difficult times.
He noted, “Pakistan is proud of its ties with China as Pak-China friendship is higher than Himalayas, deeper than oceans and sweeter than honey”.
Replying to a query, PM Ashraf said numerous issues including Gwadar port and more cooperation in energy sector will be come under discussion during his interaction with Chinese leadership.
He also said that he will hold meetings CEOs of prominent Chinese companies and business leaders besides interaction with the Chinese media.
The Chinese companies are already making large scale investments in different sectors, he added.
According to the press note, the Prime Minister will lead discussion during the ‘Business Interaction Group on Pakistan’. The session will be moderated by WEF Head of Asia as approximately fifty (50) corporate leaders are expected to attend the session.
PM Ashraf will also hold discussion with world leaders during the informal gathering of World Economic Leaders.
According to some reports, PM Ashraf is expected to seek assistance from China in developing Gwadar.
According to the organizers of the forum, the annual meeting of the new champions, under the auspices of the WEF, is the foremost global business gathering in Asia.
The forum was created, according to a joint proposal, by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Chinese Government. Northern Chinese port cities of Dalian and Tianjin have hosted the forum in turn since 2007.
