Javed Miandad to give batting tips to Green Shirts

Pakistan batsmen’s terrible failure in the third and last Twenty20 International against Australia has made the team management realise that the Green Shirts certainly need some help in the batting department.

In order to made things slightly better ahead of the imminent World T20 championship, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a given task to Javed Miandad, who will assist the national team’s batsmen in Sri Lanka.

Miandad, who is currently working as director-general in the PCB, has confirmed to PTI that he is due to join the team in Sri Lanka this week. He, however, dismissed the speculations that he would be working in the capacity of a batting coach.

"I am not going there as a batting coach. I was told by the board chairman to go to Sri Lanka and have sessions with the players ahead of the World Cup. I don’t think during such a major tournament you can coach any player or change his batting technique,"
Miandad said.

"My main priority is to have pep talks with the players, to raise their spirits and confidence and work out with the batsmen in the nets, advise them on batting issues keeping in mind the requirements of the World Cup and conditions in Sri Lanka," he added.

The former skipper has already worked as coach with the Men in Green. He has recently been given a lot of authority to see the cricketing all sorts of cricketing matters. Miandad also heads a special committee, which recently initiated an inquiry of Pakistan
Under-19’s not-so-impressive performance in the World Cup.

On his special task, he shared, "A batting coach can only work properly with the players on their batting issues when the team is not involved in any assignment or tournament. It is not possible to do this during a major event.”

He explained, "There will be no issues because while I am a part of the PCB and going there as a PCB official, Whatmore is the head coach and we both have our domains to work in. I don’t think there will be any misunderstanding."
