Nikola Pregelj and Rachel Goh win prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships

Nikola Pregelj and Rachel Goh won the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m breaststroke and Women’s 100m backstroke respectively at the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships.

With his continuous efforts, Pregelj remained in a lead of half a stroke over his following swimmer as he qualified into the payoff as top contender for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.47 seconds.

He was chased by Christian Sprenger, who stayed 0.38 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as second best finisher by submitting a time of 1 minute and 00.85 seconds.

Sprenger was trailed by Jeremy Meyer, who stayed only 0.18 seconds slower from him and earned his way into the final round as third best finisher by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.03 seconds.

Meyer was followed by Nicholas Schafer, who remained 0.43 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 01.46 seconds.

Afterwards, Goh served notice of her talent in the qualification rounds of 100m backstroke. She demonstrated her commendable efforts in the backstroke discipline and showed her urgency towards the finishing end by posting a time of 58.84 seconds.

Goh was traced by Grace Loh, who remained 0.41 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and occupied second best qualification spot of the race by reporting a time of 59.25 seconds.

Loh was followed by Holly Barratt, who remained 0.46 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in third best place by submitting a time of 59.71 seconds.

Fourth best qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Kelly Stubbins, who remained 0.50 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.21 seconds.

Stubbins experienced tough contest from Hayley Baker, who was 0.01 seconds slower from her and settled on the wall for fifth position with a timing of 1 minute and 00.22 seconds.

In addition, these swimmers will face each other in the playoff of their respective events where the winners will be awarded medals and accolades.
