Nawaz Sharif rules out further talks with MQM
Wednesday, September 12th, 2012 11:21:08 by Faisal FarooqRuling out further negotiations with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has said Altaf Hussain’s recent statements had compelled them not to pursue further dialogue with the party.
While addressing a gathering, he said, “After the kind of statements issued by Altaf recently, whatever negotiations were held with them are enough”.
The PML-N leader was of the opinion that the interim setup would be formed after consultation between the opposition leader and government.
“The interim government will be formed after consultation between the opposition leader and government,” he added.
In his view, it would be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) if a unanimous resolution was not reached on the issue.
Commenting on the newly approved local government system in Sindh, he said the entire population of the province should have been taken into confidence on the law. He observed, “What’s the advantage of such an action that fails to satisfy the people of Sindh.
He dispelled the impression of being friendly opposition saying had it been so then President Zardari wouldn’t have treated the friendly opposition the way he did.
He was of the view that his party’s growth reforms were copied by India as they proved to be very flourishing.
The neighboring country continued with the developmental work and therefore they prospered, while Pakistan didn’t as the PML-N’s sent home.
He said, “Pakistan was better than India in every sense back then, our currency was stronger, we had more electric power, our economic growth rate was close to 8% while India’s was around 2% to 3%,”.
The PML-N chief made it clear that the party wasn’t making efforts for power but for future of the country. In his view, they wanted to make the country a better place by coming into power.
He also pointed out the problems in Balochistan, saying that the crisis would have not cropped up if the PML-N was allowed to complete its terms
He said that they had planned to build motorways, schools and hospitals in the province just like other provinces.
He also mocked at Imran Khan for his tsunami of change in a matter of few days, saying these problems cannot be solved in days, it takes years to bring about a change.
