Chris Gayle eagerly looking forward to World T20
Thursday, September 13th, 2012 2:11:44 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAggressive West Indian opening batsman Chris Gayle is all set to revive happy memories in Sri Lanka, where he played his career-best Test innings of 333 a couple of years ago.
In the first Test at Galle in 2010, the explosive left-hander smashed his maiden triple-century. The sweet memories of his wonderful knock are still fresh, and Gayle is looking forward to do something equally special in the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting
in Sri Lanka next week.
"To get that triple-century was great for me. I have some happy memories here in Sri Lanka," Gayle, 32, was quoted as saying in a West Indies Cricket Board press release on Thursday.
"I am hoping to use that as a booster to bigger and better things during the tournament. We know what we’re about. We know what we are here for."
The Caribbean Kings are widely regarded as one of the best T20 sides in the world. With the likes of Gayle, Kieon Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Marlon Samuels, the side certainly has bright chances of putting up a fine show in the big event.
West Indies are placed in Group B with Australia and Ireland. Only two top teams from each group will make to the Super Eights round. Both Australia and Ireland are good T20 sides, thus the Windies will have to be on top of their game.
The West Indians did not perform notably well in the previous three editions of the World T20, but Gayle believes they have the players to deliver this time.
"When you look at our team you can say we are well balanced. We want to get it together this time around. Once we stick to what we know, I don’t see any reason why we can’t go all the way," the opener stated.
He added, "We have to adapt to the conditions as quickly as possible. We want to make a solid start and look to put other teams under some pressure.”
"There are a lot of competitive teams here. Every team has a chance to win and we have to be at our best at all times. The World T20 is ‘gonna’ be a cracker."
