153rd Corps Commander Conference deliberates national security issues

According to the media reports, the 153rd Corps Commanders’ Conference was part of regular monthly meetings, wherein the routine professional and operational issues came under discussion in the forum.
The reports said that the meeting also expressed shock and grief over the loss of precious lives in two separate fire tragedies at Karachi and Lahore, offering heartfelt condolences and sympathies to affected families.
The reports quoting sources said that the forum also discussed issues pertaining to possible visit by an American delegation, led by special US representative on Pakistan-Afghanistan issues, Mark Grossman, and his meeting with military and civilian leadership over national and international issues.
The military chief reiterated his previous stance, stressing that no external pressure over conducting any kind of army operation in Waziristan Agency would be accepted at any level.
At the same time, the top commanders of the meeting reposed complete trust in the recent visit of General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and any possible defense agreements between Pakistan and Russia.
Reports while quoting sources said that Corps Commanders were of the view that Pakistan was free and independent in establishing its foreign relationships in better interests of the nation. They were also of the opinion that the country can simply dismissed any dictation of any third party over the issue.
According to the ISPR, among other matters, the meeting also deliberated over Pak-Afghan border issues, cross-border attacks on Pakistan, intelligence-sharing and operation(s) against extremist elements of tribal areas.
A detailed debate was also carried out over possible future scenario(s) after America’s recent declaration of Haqqani Network as a terrorist outfit and imposing a ban over it.
Any possible progress in Pakistan-India composite dialogue was also assessed, while satisfaction was observed over Pak Army’s rescue and relief operations in flood hit areas of Pakistan.
